Smokey Bones is closing more locations across Florida as parent company FAT Brands accelerates a major rebranding effort.
Several longtime barbecue spots are being transformed into Twin Peaks sports bars, known for a mix of sports entertainment and waitstaff with a provocative twist.
The shift started in late 2024 when a Lakeland location became a Twin Peaks and quickly exceeded expectations.
Following that success, FAT Brands shut down Smokey Bones on Skibo Road in Fayetteville in April 2025, with a new Twin Peaks set to open there later this year.
The company now plans to convert 30 of the remaining 45 Smokey Bones into Twin Peaks nationwide, leaving just 15 barbecue restaurants operating.
This marks a larger industry trend toward sports-themed dining, reflecting evolving customer interests.
Florida communities face farewells to familiar local eateries—but gain a new, energetic spot to gather for food and games.
